Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a well proven system of natural medicine which uses remedies
derived from plants, minerals and other natural substances to stimulate your
body's self-healing capacity.
Homeopathy aims to treat disease at its roots, removing the cause of your
illness as well as the symptoms. It has a wide scope of application and can
be used to treat virtually any condition in the young and old alike.
I started training as a Homeopath in 1997 whilst working as a special needs
teacher. I currently
work with a mental health charity and am interested in mental health and
emotional problems in children and adults.
I also teach at the Contemporary College in Exeter and at a teaching clinic
in Clapham.
KATE BELL
Reiki Masters/ Teachers
Reiki means Universal Life Energy, the vital life force which flows through
all living beings. A Reiki treatment is usually deeply relaxing and can be
subtle or very powerful, depending on what one needs at the time, and can
facilitate change. Reiki is hands on form of healing which is a nourishing
treat to yourself and brings love, harmony and balance to Mind, Body and
Soul- so go on 'treat' yourself!

Kate Bell
Reiki is a great passion of mine it has helped heal and transform my life,
enabling me to become more my true self and to trust my intuition. It is a
healing meditation that is continually changing and evolving. A treatment is
as much a joy to give as it is to receive. We give individual treatments but
also work together, offering a very unique opportunity to have a Reiki from
both of us. This 'Double Whammy' is proving to be very popular!
PETER BELL (Narayano)
Hypnotherapy, NLP, Emotional Freedom Techniques
Hypnotherapy is a powerful technique that can help us to make changes at a
very deep level. The unconscious mind is a vast storehouse of learning
experiences, skills and abilities. These resources can be accessed through
the use of hypnotherapy to overcome the way we limit ourselves at an
unconscious level. Hypnotherapy is a combination of two words- hypnosis,
where a trance is induced and therapy where problems can be resolved.
NLP Psychotherapy deals with the way people represent the world to
themselves, for example, we are unable to change things that have happened
in the past, but we are able to change the way we feel about negative events
that are affecting our actions in the present. Many of the techniques used
in NLP are about changing our state. If because of negative or depressive
thoughts or memories about the past, we are feeling inadequate and unable to
deal with a situation, we are unlikely to resolve difficulties and problems
that we are experiencing. By changing our state to one that is resourceful
we can deal with problems far more easily. Emotional Freedom Technique is a
therapy and also a self-help technique which deals with any problem that has
an emotional component by gently tapping on main acupuncture points to
rebalance the energy system. Fears, phobias, anger, guilt, depression,
addictions, insomnia, pain and allergies can often be helped by EFT.

the head, neck and shoulders.
I have been working within the Health and Social Care field for over twenty
years. At present I combine my work as a therapist together with working as
a Healthcare advocate. My approach is to empower people so that they can
take control of their own health and wellbeing. I am fully qualified and aim

Tissue Massage, Nutritional Therapy, Life Coaching
Deep Tissue
Healing can best be described as a Workout for Body and Soul! It is a
powerful technique that helps refresh muscles and shift toxins lodged in
tissue along the bones. As these toxins are released, so feelings of joy,
peace and contentment are able to surface. Clients invariably leave happier,
more relaxed and able to face the world in a positive frame of mind. It also
offers a great treatment for aches and pains! I trained with the School of
Deep Tissue Healing in Bristol where I studied massage, healing and
metaphysics.
I am also a qualified and experienced Nutritional Therapist. I was
originally trained by Patrick Holford at the Institute of Optimum Nutrition,
where I later taught for ten years. I have also trained with the College of
Natural Nutrition and the Academy of Systematic Kinesiology. My approach
tends toward a naturopathic one combined with coaching strategies to support
behavioural change.
I also offer Life Coaching sessions and am a certified Life Coach and
Member of the Life Coaching Academy.

Massage
Therapist
I am beginning
my work as a massage therapist full of enthusiasm, and delight in the
practice of the healing art of massage.
Swedish body massage is the springboard for my practice, it does not define
it but informs it, my interest in massage and healing is broad. The massage
I offer is not uniform, no two people receive the same treatment as I work
intuitively, responding to the needs of the client and tuning in
energetically. The work I offer is about the individual - not the routine. I
have a strong, yet sensitive touch, working deeply, yet delicately with
areas of deeply held tension. Peeling back the layers of holding, allowing a
deeper release to happen. My training as an energy healer informs my
practice as a massage therapist. Creating a container of positive intention
for healing and holding in which the nourishing experience of massage can
unfold.
I use ethically sourced massage and essential oils within my practice and
would be delighted if you choose to receive a massage from me.

Shiatsu,
Chinese Herbs
Shiatsu is a
form of Japanese bodywork massage. It involves stimulating the channels and
points of acupuncture using different pressure, massage and stretching
techniques to stimulate changes in our energy system and return a person to
health. Shiatsu can restore vitality, reduce physical and emotional stress,
promote and maintain health and relieve a wide range of health conditions.
Chinese Herbal Medicine shares the same theoretical foundation as Chinese
Acupuncture. The diagnosis of your condition leads to the prescription of a
formula, tailor-made for an individual's treatment either as decoctions of
dried herbs or pills and tinctures made from these herbs. This approach is
holistic and is applicable for chronic or acute illness, and is suitable for
all ages. I have been a Shiatsu practitioner since 1996 and studied at the
Devon School of Shiatsu, passing the Shiatsu Society exams to be a
registered practitioner. My post graduate training has included Moxabustion,
Pelvic correction, Traditional Chinese Medicine, European Herbs, Tuina,
working with cancer and in pregnancy support. I graduated in Chinese herbal
Medicine at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading and am on
the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Craniosacral Therapy
I have been involved with Complimentary Medicine for several years. As well
as Craniosacral Therapy, I am also qualified in Holistic Massage,
Reflexology and Reiki Healing. I trained in Cranial Sacral Therapy with the
Craniosacral Educational Trust in London. I have also completed a
postgraduate course, specializing in Cranial for mothers and babies, which
is an area that is of particular interest to me. I am a Supervisor for the
Student Teaching Clinic in London on a part-time basis.
The gentle approach of this therapy is entirely non-invasive. It is suitable
for all ages from newborn babies to the elderly. The therapy can help to
identify and influence deeply held patterns of disease, which accumulate in
the body, as a result of physical and emotional stress. It is a 'hands on'
therapy that follows subtle innate movements within the body structure. It
is based on a number of findings about the body's subtle physiology, which
were made by Osteopaths in the USA nearly 100 years ago. The findings show
that every cell in a healthy body expresses a rhythmic movement which is
fundamental to life and which has been called Craniosacral motion. At the
core of the body the cerebrospinal fluid, which bathes and cushions the
brain and spinal chord, expresses this motion as a tide-like ebb and flow;
while bones, organs and other structures of the body each follow their own
particular pattern of movement within this. This motion is so subtle that it
is barely measurable with instruments. However, the hands of a trained
practitioner are able to perceive it. This gentle therapy uses no
manipulation. The practitioner listens via the hands, to what is going on in
the body, and facilitates the body's vital force to manifest and bring about
intrinsic change and reorganization. In this way the practitioner identifies
and treats pain or tensions held in the body. The treatment is suitable for
a variety of conditions.

Thai massage is
a clothed massage combining acupressure, massage, joint manipulation and
gentle stretches. It is beneficial for aches, pains, stiffness, poor
circulation, stress, fatigue and general health maintenance. It is also
great as a support for yoga, martial arts, dance and sport.
Reflexology is a focused foot massage based on the idea that the feet
represent a map of the body. It is suitable for a wide variety of common
health problems including stress and related disorders, headaches, back
problems, insomnia, digestive problems, poor circulation, hormonal
imbalances and fatigue. I practice Chinese reflexology which is stimulating
and precision reflexology which is more subtle.
I have taught yoga and practised Thai massage for 12 years and reflexology
for 4. Prior to that I worked in learning disability and mental health
services for the NHS and Social Services for 8 years.

Creative
Kinesiology, Life Tracking
Kinesiology is a blend of Ancient Chinese Traditional Medicine, with
its understanding of energy in the body, and modern Chiropractic with its
knowledge of muscles and bones and how they move.
Muscle testing is used to identify imbalances in the body's physical,
chemical, mental, emotional or spiritual energy, helping a person overcome
long-held emotional, physical and energetic patterns, which can manifest as
aches and pains, illness, frustration with life, depression, lack of
confidence, low energy states and a lack of fulfillment or purpose.
Creative Kinesiology can find the root cause of a problem and is able to
facilitate energetic healing at all levels. Creative Kinesiology is
recognized by the Kinesiology Federation of Great Britain and the
International Association of Specialised Kinesiologists.

Reflexology
is a gentle, therapeutic, precise foot massage. Points on the feet (and
hands) correspond to every part of the body. These are stimulated by
pressure, sending an unconscious impulse to the body’s glands and organs.
Reiki is a natural, simple yet powerful healing technique transmitted
through the hands. It means Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy. Both these
therapies re-balance and support the body, mind and emotions, reducing
stress and help to promote deep relaxation and healing.
Bach Flower Remedies work on emotional negative issues helping to
restore harmony and happiness.
Hopi Ear Candles are a soothing treatment to assist many head and ear
problems. I incorporate Nutritional Advice, where appropriate. I often find
the therapies combine together supporting the whole body, not only in times
of illness, but also as a positive way to maintain and strengthen health and
well being.
I trained as a State Registered Nurse in Bristol and in more recent years
became increasingly aware of the benefits of Complementary Health Care. I
qualified as a Reflexologist in 1995 and as a Reiki Master Teacher in 1998.
I am an approved Reiki Teacher, deeply committed to updated the skills that
I practise and run regular courses at this Centre.

Alexander Technique
In young
children we frequently see an alertness and poise that allows them to sit,
stand and move gracefully without strain. Yet rarely do we see that same
poise continuing into adult life.
Most of us have developed habits which interfere with our natural
co-ordination and functioning which in turn leads to symptoms such as
headaches, backache, stiff neck, hypertension, excessive tiredness etc.
Alexander Technique lessons bring awareness to how we move and the way we
react to everyday stimulus. We can then respond with greater ease and in
such a way that prevents further problems.
Roger has been
teaching the Alexander Technique in Totnes and Plymouth for the last 13
years and also teaches at
Cortijo Romero
in Spain.

Acupuncture
Integrated
Chinese Acupuncture is a powerful and deep holistic system of medicine. It
is effective in treating a wide range of health conditions, including
headaches, stress, addictions, depression, insomnia, circulation and back
problems. By stimulation of certain points in the
body tissues close to the surface with very fine needles it helps a natural
and true healing to occur. A herbal heat treatment called Moxibustion is
sometimes used.
I began training in Sydney, Australia and continued in 1983 with the College
of Traditional
Acupuncture, UK. In June 2004 I completed a post graduate course at the
College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. Married with a son and
three stepdaughters,
I am among the core founding group of the Bowden House Community near
Totnes.

TRADITIONAL ACUPUNCTURE
Many people
have found acupuncture to be safe, pain free and very beneficial in
conditions such as anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain and sciatica,
digestion and bowel conditions, headaches, menstrual problems, stress, sleep
problems or tiredness and lack of energy. Many people are surprised by the
range of health problems that acupuncture can treat with excellent results.
To balance the energy of body, mind and spirit, very fine needles are
inserted into points on the Meridians, the body's energy channels. The
effects of treatment can be felt immediately and benefits are accumulative
and increase with each regular treatment.
After my initial studies in Shiatsu massage and a background in care,
nursing and occupational therapy, I studied for three years at the College
of Traditional Acupuncture in Leamington Spa. I have helped to run an NHS
Detox clinic since it opened four years ago, and am privileged to serve as
Chairman of the Totnes Natural Health Centre. A devoted family man, I enjoy
four busy practices throughout Devon.

THE
FELDENKRAIS METHOD
Individual lessons in 'functional integration' are most useful for specific
issues which limit one's movement or mobility. This includes the many types
of chronic pain, and also neurological disorders. Also included are people -
for example, sports people, horse riders, musician, artists - who would like
to enhance their performance skills; and those who do very repetitive work,
for example computer programmers or secretaries, - who find their work
causes repetitive stress injuries.
Each lesson is individually tailored and typically revolves around the
question "What are your unique patterns in movement, and do these patterns
help or hinder you? The larger part of the lesson is non-verbal and I use my
touch to help us explore the question together, and I may guide, support and
suggest new movement options You are fully
clothed, on a wide, low table. It is non-invasive, gentle and most people
find extremely relaxing and helpful.
The Feldenkrais Method is somatic education, meaning 'learning through the
body', the main tools are awareness and movement. Through getting in touch
with how you do everyday movements, you develop more efficient choices, and
old aches and pains disappear, you feel more co-ordinated, flexible and
graceful, and usually this creates a general sense of well-being - people
often find that for example, their thought processes become clearer, that
they are able to make decisions more effectively, that past traumas are
dissolved.
Nikhila runs a full time practice, with clients who are mainly professional
people of all ages and abilities. The youngest person she has worked with is
five months old, and she also has four-legged clients: horses and dogs. She
enjoys helping people to find their way through the challenges of injury and
disease, to learn about themselves and from their situation, and get in
touch with what really inspires them - "If each of us simply practice being
present, in ourselves, our lives improve —"

Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a
form of massage, developed in Japan in the last century. Using fingers, palm
and forearms, pressure is applied to stimulate the energy channels and
pressure points of the body. This helps to bring about a change in the
body's energy or 'ki' to allow healing and restore health. Benefits from the
treatment include restoring vitality and relieving physical and emotional
stress. It is particularly good for muscle and joint pain and back aches.
Digestive, respiratory, urinary and reproductive organ problems can also be
relieved.
I practice from Natural Health Centres in Totnes, Plymouth and Kingsbridge
and have also helped to run a service for people recovering from substance
abuse. I am also a Reflexology and Reiki practitioner. I am a fully
qualified member of The Shiatsu Society and offer courses in Shiatsu
exercises and Qi Gong.

Herbal
Medicine
Herbal Medicine, one of the oldest forms of
healing, uses whole plant preparations to treat illness and maintain good
health. Almost any condition that someone might take to their GP can be
treated. Common complaints include digestive or skin problems,
gynaecological disorders, migraine, recurrent colds and flu, post viral
fatigue, asthma, anxiety to name a few. The herbalist aims to find the cause
of the problem and then chooses appropriate herbs to combine to create a
unique prescription for that person. The safety record of herbal medicine by
trained herbalists is excellent. Any age group can be treated and herbs can
be used alongside conventional medicine.
Much modern research has confirmed that herbs help stimulate and support the
body's own healing powers. Many promote the removal of toxins, nourish and
relax the body and enhance resistance to infections.
I studied for 4 years with The School of Herbal Medicine (Phytotherapy) and
became a member of the National Institute of Herbalists in 1986. I also
teach adult education classes on herbal medicine and am available for talks
and workshops.

Energy Healing
I'm going to
tell you a story. In 1992 I was a mess. Now I am not so messy (apart from
when I eat). When things couldn't get any lower or messier, I turned around.
I became a student of the Ascended Masters in 1992 and am become more aware
of this gift as I develop as a practitioner. I graduated in 2006 from the
School of Energy Healing, the principles of which were founded on the work
of Barbara Brennan, author of 'Hands of Light'.
I am fluent in all kinds of vibrational states and see blockages which, if
grace is with us, may be removed or dissolved back into the energy of life,
light, and love.
These blockages may be mental, emotional, or physical stretching back to
childhood or further to previous incarnations.
All that
happens and has happens is down to our belief systems. As Quantum physics
has proven, energy follows thought without exception. We can change those
belief systems, yes we can. I love what I do and I am very good at it,
honest. I look forward to working with you.

Osteopathy
and Reconnection Healing, Psychic Development
As an Osteopath
I primarily treat the structure and alignment of the body by combining
specific adjustment techniques with Cranial Osteopathy to create a very
powerful and potent mixture of treatment.
This can treat a wide variety of ailments such as headaches, whiplash or
post accident trauma as well as neuralgia, asthma, arthritis, irritable
bowel syndrome, sports injuries and sprains. The treatment can address
problems that may have had their roots in past traumas or have been
triggered by a recent strain.
Patients often find that not only do they return to normal after a short
course of treatment, but also that their posture has been dramatically
transformed.
As a practitioner with 25 years experience, I am also a healer and work with
guides on an energy level to give a reconnection healing which can treat all
ages, from newborn to the elderly, with often miraculous effects. You may
also attend regular Psychic Development workshops which I run at the Centre.

Reflexology
Reflexology is a treatment giving the body and its organs complete attention
by working through the feet.
This technique of detailed yet gentle stimulation of all pressure points
offers relief for specific problems as well as complete toning and energy
boosting for the organs in the body.
I incorporate this with a deeply nurturing and relaxing foot massage which
ensures a feeling of let and go and well being on the physical and mental
level and an opportunity for the client to spend quality time with
him/herself in peace and quiet.
I did my reflexology training in New York in 1990 and have worked with it
ever since.
I am also a Reiki master and have completed a course in Veda-balance
Ayurvedic massage.
I am also a meditation teacher.

The Bowen
technique
The Bowen
technique is a non-manipulative therapy in which small precise rolling moves
are made over muscles, ligaments and tendons. These moves stimulate the body
to make its own adjustments which help rebalance, relieve tension and reduce
pain.
Bowen technique can be effective for many conditions, including back, knee
and shoulder pain, arthritis, respiratory conditions, migraine, RSI, sports
injuries, migraine and infant colic, and is considered safe for all ages. I
decided to train in the Bowen Technique after experiencing the effects
myself I have also experienced the impressive and sometimes unbelievable
results it can have on many physical conditions, often within a few
sessions. Living in Totnes, I am a practicing Osho Neo-Reiki Master and
meditation teacher.
