The Trager Approach

The Trager Approach is a mind-body approach to movement education. It is a system of gentle, rhythmic movement and touch facilitating deep relaxation, increased physical mobility and mental clarity. To promote the body's optimal performance there are several aspects of the approach: one in which the client with clothes on, passively absorbs the movement of their body on a padded table and another aspect, in which the client is taught separate from the table work, to actively explore comfortable free movement for themselves, known as Mentastics.
Underlying to the basic aim of psychophysical integration in the Trager Approach, is a form of neuro-muscular re-education called Reflex Response. This aspect of Dr Trager's work actively involves the client in awakening the connection between their mind and body.
I qualified as a Trager practitioner in1988 and continue to find it a privilege to offer its benefits to clients. A medative approach by the practitioner underpins the work resulting in a deep sense of harmony engendered within the clients mind and body, a pre requisite for healing to occur.

Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a well proven system of natural medicine which uses remedies
derived from plants, minerals and other natural substances to stimulate your
body's self-healing capacity.
Homeopathy aims to treat disease at its roots, removing the cause of your
illness as well as the symptoms. It has a wide scope of application and can
be used to treat virtually any condition in the young and old alike.
I started training as a Homeopath in 1997 whilst working as a special needs
teacher. I currently
work with a mental health charity and am interested in mental health and
emotional problems in children and adults.
I also teach at the Contemporary College in Exeter and at a teaching clinic
in Clapham.

Reiki means Universal Life Energy, the vital life force which flows through
all living beings. A Reiki treatment is usually deeply relaxing and can be
subtle or very powerful, depending on what one needs at the time, and can
facilitate change. Reiki is hands on form of healing which is a nourishing
treat to yourself and brings love, harmony and balance to Mind, Body and
Soul- so go on 'treat' yourself!

Kate Bell
Reiki is a great passion of mine it has helped heal and transform my life,
enabling me to become more my true self and to trust my intuition. It is a
healing meditation that is continually changing and evolving. A treatment is
as much a joy to give as it is to receive. We give individual treatments but
also work together, offering a very unique opportunity to have a Reiki from
both of us. This 'Double Whammy' is proving to be very popular!

Shiatsu,
Chinese Herbs
Shiatsu is a
form of Japanese bodywork massage. It involves stimulating the channels and
points of acupuncture using different pressure, massage and stretching
techniques to stimulate changes in our energy system and return a person to
health. Shiatsu can restore vitality, reduce physical and emotional stress,
promote and maintain health and relieve a wide range of health conditions.
Chinese Herbal Medicine shares the same theoretical foundation as Chinese
Acupuncture. The diagnosis of your condition leads to the prescription of a
formula, tailor-made for an individual's treatment either as decoctions of
dried herbs or pills and tinctures made from these herbs. This approach is
holistic and is applicable for chronic or acute illness, and is suitable for
all ages. I have been a Shiatsu practitioner since 1996 and studied at the
Devon School of Shiatsu, passing the Shiatsu Society exams to be a
registered practitioner. My post graduate training has included Moxabustion,
Pelvic correction, Traditional Chinese Medicine, European Herbs, Tuina,
working with cancer and in pregnancy support. I graduated in Chinese herbal
Medicine at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading and am on
the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Craniosacral Therapy
I have been involved with Complimentary Medicine for several years. As well
as Craniosacral Therapy, I am also qualified in Holistic Massage,
Reflexology and Reiki Healing. I trained in Cranial Sacral Therapy with the
Craniosacral Educational Trust in London. I have also completed a
postgraduate course, specializing in Cranial for mothers and babies, which
is an area that is of particular interest to me. I am a Supervisor for the
Student Teaching Clinic in London on a part-time basis.
The gentle approach of this therapy is entirely non-invasive. It is suitable
for all ages from newborn babies to the elderly. The therapy can help to
identify and influence deeply held patterns of disease, which accumulate in
the body, as a result of physical and emotional stress. It is a 'hands on'
therapy that follows subtle innate movements within the body structure. It
is based on a number of findings about the body's subtle physiology, which
were made by Osteopaths in the USA nearly 100 years ago. The findings show
that every cell in a healthy body expresses a rhythmic movement which is
fundamental to life and which has been called Craniosacral motion. At the
core of the body the cerebrospinal fluid, which bathes and cushions the
brain and spinal chord, expresses this motion as a tide-like ebb and flow;
while bones, organs and other structures of the body each follow their own
particular pattern of movement within this. This motion is so subtle that it
is barely measurable with instruments. However, the hands of a trained
practitioner are able to perceive it. This gentle therapy uses no
manipulation. The practitioner listens via the hands, to what is going on in
the body, and facilitates the body's vital force to manifest and bring about
intrinsic change and reorganization. In this way the practitioner identifies
and treats pain or tensions held in the body. The treatment is suitable for
a variety of conditions.

The Bowen Technique
European College of Bowen Studies

The Bowen Technique is a gentle form of bodywork in which subtle moves performed over the muscles and connective tissue send messages deep into the body, promoting recovery and pain relief. It restores a sense of well-being, relaxation and balance. The Bowen moves are light, gentle and very precise. There are frequent but essential pauses throughout the session that allow the body time to respond and begin the healing process. The Bowen Technique is suitable for everyone, from babies, athletes, pregnant women to the elderly. It can assist recovery from many conditions, both physical and emotional.
I have trained in The Bowen Technique in 2009, after experiencing its benefits first hand on myself and my children. I am continually pleased at the healing effects this amazing technique offers.
I have done postgraduate training in Sports Injuries in 2010.
I have a personal interest in emotional well-being and have found that The Bowen sessions have helped many people find their way back to a positive way of living.

Candles
Reflexology
is a gentle, therapeutic, precise foot massage. Points on the feet (and
hands) correspond to every part of the body. These are stimulated by
pressure, sending an unconscious impulse to the body’s glands and organs.
Reiki is a natural, simple yet powerful healing technique transmitted
through the hands. It means Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy. Both these
therapies re-balance and support the body, mind and emotions, reducing
stress and help to promote deep relaxation and healing.
Bach Flower Remedies work on emotional negative issues helping to
restore harmony and happiness.
Hopi Ear Candles are a soothing treatment to assist many head and ear
problems. I incorporate Nutritional Advice, where appropriate. I often find
the therapies combine together supporting the whole body, not only in times
of illness, but also as a positive way to maintain and strengthen health and
well being.
I trained as a State Registered Nurse in Bristol and in more recent years
became increasingly aware of the benefits of Complementary Health Care. I
qualified as a Reflexologist in 1995 and as a Reiki Master Teacher in 1998.
I am an approved Reiki Teacher, deeply committed to updated the skills that
I practise and run regular courses at this Centre.

CranioSacral Therapy, Massage
Therapeutic Massage is a gentle and deeply nourishing whole body
treatment. As well as relieving stress and anxiety, its benefits include
improved circulation, released muscle tension and an overall sense of
wellbeing. I use only 100% organic oils from the Neal's Yard Remedies range.
CranioSacral Therapy works with the body's natural capacity to heal.
In response to illness, accidents or emotional stress, the tissues of our
bodies may contract. Over time, if these areas remain contracted, the body's
functioning can become compromised. A CranioSacral Therapist gently traces
symptoms back to their source, helping the body to release patterns it no
longer needs to hold.
I am an experienced Massage and CranioSacral Therapist, and I have worked in
England, Australia, New Zealand and Spain. My approach to health is gentle,
intuitive and non-invasive, supporting each person to bring balance back to
their body.

Alexander Technique
In young
children we frequently see an alertness and poise that allows them to sit,
stand and move gracefully without strain. Yet rarely do we see that same
poise continuing into adult life.
Most of us have developed habits which interfere with our natural
co-ordination and functioning which in turn leads to symptoms such as
headaches, backache, stiff neck, hypertension, excessive tiredness etc.
Alexander Technique lessons bring awareness to how we move and the way we
react to everyday stimulus. We can then respond with greater ease and in
such a way that prevents further problems.
Roger has been
teaching the Alexander Technique in Totnes and Plymouth for the last 13
years and also teaches at
Cortijo Romero
in Spain.

Martha Van Heerden, BA (Hons) Dip CNM
Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist
It was my time spent in India observing food being used as medicine that opened my eyes to its powerful healing properties.
On returning to the UK my fascination with the properties of food and the need for good nutrition lead me to study naturopathic nutrition for 3 years at the Naturopathic College of Medicine. My studies included anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and functional medicine using naturopathic principles.
I have learnt from this that appropriate nutrition is fundamental for successful treatment of any health condition and that each time we make the decision to eat something we have the opportunity to change the way our body functions, for better or worse.
With this in mind, I enjoy working with people who are looking to make beneficial changes to their diet and lifestyle and are ready to give their body what it needs for optimum function and support in its natural healing process.
Principles of naturopathy
The healing power of nature.
Naturopathic practitioners trust that the body has the inherent ability to establish, maintain and restore health when given the right environment.
Identify and treat the cause.
Illness does not occur without a cause. Underlying causes of disease must be discovered and treated before a person can recover from illness.

Acupuncture
Integrated
Chinese Acupuncture is a powerful and deep holistic system of medicine. It
is effective in treating a wide range of health conditions, including
headaches, stress, addictions, depression, insomnia, circulation and back
problems. By stimulation of certain points in the
body tissues close to the surface with very fine needles it helps a natural
and true healing to occur. A herbal heat treatment called Moxibustion is
sometimes used.
I began training in Sydney, Australia and continued in 1983 with the College
of Traditional
Acupuncture, UK. In June 2004 I completed a post graduate course at the
College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. Married with a son and
three stepdaughters,
I am among the core founding group of the Bowden House Community near
Totnes.

TRADITIONAL ACUPUNCTURE
Many people
have found acupuncture to be safe, pain free and very beneficial in
conditions such as anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain and sciatica,
digestion and bowel conditions, headaches, menstrual problems, stress, sleep
problems or tiredness and lack of energy. Many people are surprised by the
range of health problems that acupuncture can treat with excellent results.
To balance the energy of body, mind and spirit, very fine needles are
inserted into points on the Meridians, the body's energy channels. The
effects of treatment can be felt immediately and benefits are accumulative
and increase with each regular treatment.
After my initial studies in Shiatsu massage and a background in care,
nursing and occupational therapy, I studied for three years at the College
of Traditional Acupuncture in Leamington Spa. I have helped to run an NHS
Detox clinic since it opened four years ago, and am privileged to serve as
Chairman of the Totnes Natural Health Centre. A devoted family man, I enjoy
four busy practices throughout Devon.

Herbal
Medicine
Herbal Medicine, one of the oldest forms of
healing, uses whole plant preparations to treat illness and maintain good
health. Almost any condition that someone might take to their GP can be
treated. Common complaints include digestive or skin problems,
gynaecological disorders, migraine, recurrent colds and flu, post viral
fatigue, asthma, anxiety to name a few. The herbalist aims to find the cause
of the problem and then chooses appropriate herbs to combine to create a
unique prescription for that person. The safety record of herbal medicine by
trained herbalists is excellent. Any age group can be treated and herbs can
be used alongside conventional medicine.
Much modern research has confirmed that herbs help stimulate and support the
body's own healing powers. Many promote the removal of toxins, nourish and
relax the body and enhance resistance to infections.
I studied for 4 years with The School of Herbal Medicine (Phytotherapy) and
became a member of the National Institute of Herbalists in 1986. I also
teach adult education classes on herbal medicine and am available for talks
and workshops.

VortexHealing® Energy Healing

VortexHealing is designed to help people return to a place of emotional balance and energetic strength, so that health prevails. It is a powerful healing art ranging from its ability to gently nurture and energize, nourishing depletion at a core level, to facilitating deep release and clearing on all levels of the energy system.
The goal of VortexHealing is also much larger than this, because complete healing requires a return to wholeness. And wholeness requires a return to the awareness of what we are, an awakening out of our root experience of separation into the experience of our true being. Hence, by various means, VortexHealing is designed to create enough inner space from the webs of personal conditioning and enough self-awareness (which arises in that space), to enable people to awaken out of their conditioned web of reality to the freedom and Oneness that is their true nature. As this awakening happens, the whole dance of awakening out of suffering to realize the Truth of our being is seen in a different light, for we realize that we never really lost what we always were, we only forgot it.
ROB SIDOLI DSEH
Energy Healing
I'm going to
tell you a story. In 1992 I was a mess. Now I am not so messy (apart from
when I eat). When things couldn't get any lower or messier, I turned around.
I became a student of the Ascended Masters in 1992 and am become more aware
of this gift as I develop as a practitioner. I graduated in 2006 from the
School of Energy Healing, the principles of which were founded on the work
of Barbara Brennan, author of 'Hands of Light'.
I am fluent in all kinds of vibrational states and see blockages which, if
grace is with us, may be removed or dissolved back into the energy of life,
light, and love.
These blockages may be mental, emotional, or physical stretching back to
childhood or further to previous incarnations.
All that
happens and has happens is down to our belief systems. As Quantum physics
has proven, energy follows thought without exception. We can change those
belief systems, yes we can. I love what I do and I am very good at it,
honest. I look forward to working with you.

Osteopathy
and Reconnection Healing, Psychic Development
As an Osteopath
I primarily treat the structure and alignment of the body by combining
specific adjustment techniques with Cranial Osteopathy to create a very
powerful and potent mixture of treatment.
This can treat a wide variety of ailments such as headaches, whiplash or
post accident trauma as well as neuralgia, asthma, arthritis, irritable
bowel syndrome, sports injuries and sprains. The treatment can address
problems that may have had their roots in past traumas or have been
triggered by a recent strain.
Patients often find that not only do they return to normal after a short
course of treatment, but also that their posture has been dramatically
transformed.
As a practitioner with 25 years experience, I am also a healer and work with
guides on an energy level to give a reconnection healing which can treat all
ages, from newborn to the elderly, with often miraculous effects. You may
also attend regular Psychic Development workshops which I run at the Centre.
